METROPOLITAN CITY OF CAGLIARI

The Metropolitan City of Cagliari consists of 17 municipalities located around the capital. The Metropolitan City promotes actions to protect and enhance the environment. It adheres to the principles of open government and encourages public participation processes to improve the well-being and quality of life of the citizens.
The Metropolitan City of Cagliari has a Strategic Plan and a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, developed together with citizens and stakeholders. These documents outline medium to long-term strategies for territorial development and the management of resources and public services based on the four dimensions of sustainability: environmental, social, economic, and governance. Moreover, a Sustainable Agenda has been developed as an operational tool for the advancement of various pilot projects.
Within the partnership with EGOS 2023 Colloquium, several projects focused on environmental sustainability and citizen inclusion have been carried out. One example is the urban afforestation and planting, funded under the Climate Decree of MASE, conducted by the Metropolitan City in the municipalities of Cagliari (in the San Paolo and Monte Urpinu areas) and Sestu (in the Cortexandra Area)
A more recent campaign was focused on providing bicycles for commuting to work/school to employees as sustainable means of transportation to improve intermodality, quality of life, and reduce pollution.
The Metropolitan City of Cagliari has developed LABMET, a digital platform for public participation available for consultation on the Good Life for All initiative, where everyone can share their vision and propose new ideas.
