ARST

ARST is the most important local public transport company in Sardiniaand one of the most important also at a national level; is a multimodal operator that offers public transport services in urban areas (Oristano, Alghero, Macomer, Iglesias, Carbonia), suburban in the main regional centers (Cagliari, Sassari, Oristano, Olbia) and extra-urban in 367 Sardinian municipalities out of 377. The services they are carried out by means of buses, trains and light rail in the Metropolitan City of Cagliari and in the wider area of Sassari.

The themes of the sustainability and environmental protection, have long been at the center of the company action carried out in concert with the Sardinia Region: ARST was the first company in Italy to introduce the first EURO 2007 buses back in 6 which significantly contributed to the progressive replacement of the most obsolete and polluting vehicles; the transition towards increasingly "green" and environmentally sustainable bus fleets has continued and is still continuing with the introduction of new hybrid, electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Hydrogen is the new energy frontier on which ARST and RAS have focused for the development of 100% "clean" transport systems; in addition to the introduction of some new hydrogen buses, the project financed by the PNNR complementary fund is underway for the construction of a new railway connection with the Alghero airport which will be operated exclusively with hydrogen trains. An experiment wanted by the EU and by the Ministry of Transport and which sees ARST, together with 2 other important narrow-gauge railways, strongly committed to the issue.

The structural vocation of ARST to environmental sustainability is strengthened by the important extension of light rail networks of Cagliari and Sassari for which significant investments are underway aimed precisely at strengthening the role of "clean" public transport in the most important urban areas of Sardinia and thus favoring the transfer of ever greater shares of private, polluting transport towards public transport .

ARST is also responsible for design and construction of the new, extensive, regional cycle networkwhich with over 1,000 km of tracks and suitable routes, will connect the inland territories to the coasts through tracks that partially recover old disused railway lines and which constitute, in many areas, a formidable network already partially usable by cyclists due to the already low gradients required by the railways.

Finally, to complete the transport system offered, always at the service of a complex social system such as that of our region, it is necessary to consider the Green Train of Sardinia which allows you to discover in a sustainable way and without any impact on the environment, natural beauties that are not appreciable and reachable only by using the train.
